  • He has an international reputation as author, therapist and educator

  • He trains family therapists, psychotherapists and counsellors in eleven countries

  • He is considered one the world’s foremost Satir therapist and trainer

  • He is an Approved Supervisor of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and Director of Training of the Satir Institute of the Pacific

  • He has a private practice as psychologist and family therapist in Delta, BC, Canada

  • Member of the Canadian and American Psychological Association

  • He has authored “The Use of the Satir Model in Treating Suicide Clients”; Co-authored “The Satir Model: Family Therapy and Beyond”; Edited “Meditations of Virginia Satir”, “Applications of the Satir Growth Model”, “Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy” and “Virginia Satir…In Her Own Words”

  • Currently he is serving as International Psychological Consultant at Capital Normal University, Beijing, China; and as tenured Consultant of the Satir Model Research and Development Center of the Shanghai Psychological Counseling Association of Higher Learning, Shanghai, China

  • He has sat on boards of the Virginia Satir Global Network (formerly Avanta), the International Family Therapy Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the British Columbia Psychological Association


    Jean Monteiro

    BA (English),Dip Ed (University of Malaya), Dip Management (MIM)

    Jean Monteiro is a graduate of University of Malaya in B.A. English (1973) and Diploma in Education (1976). She holds a Diploma in Management (1983) from Malaysian Institute of Management ( MIM ). Setting up JM Education Counselling Centre (JMECC) has enabled Jean to extend her teaching experience beyond the classroom. The wide exposure to and close links with institutions of higher learning, both local and overseas, allow JMECC to provide counselling and advice on options and opportunities for continuing education upon completion of secondary school.

    Jean is a member of National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI) and has assumed offices such as Deputy General Secretary, Honorary General Treasurer and a Council Member of NAPEI in past years. Jean's membership with NAPEI and her service in the National Council of NAPEI has gained her a high regard among the local institutions.

  • Enjoys teaching young kids with a belief that children should be nurtured and developed totally and not just academically.

  • Completed Primary, Secondary and Tertiary studies in New Zealand and is exposed to Western teaching methods.

  • Understand the importance of our Eastern family and value system and is interested in how the two can be integrated.
